What we'll do

Join an award-winning wine and food tour of the Hunter Valley with Jimmy the chef!

Jimmy's Hunter Valley gourmet wine trip is our favourite way to experience the food and wine of the Hunter region. This tour is truly unique and provides the opportunity for you to taste locally made wines matched with a regional Australian menu. All food is prepared on location by your very own professional guide and chef, Jimmy.

Your day starts with a quick trip to the Sydney Fish Markets, where you can learn about Australian seafood. Then it is time to head north, stopping at the Hawkesbury River for a delicious, freshly-cooked breakfast. Continue on to the Hunter Region, where you'll visit 3 different award-winning wineries, each with their own unique wines.

At each winery, Jimmy will prepare some Australian food such as Kangaroo and Barramundi, which is paired perfectly with the wines. Take time to enjoy the beautiful scenery as you drive through the Hunter Valley region, and keep an eye out for kangaroos grazing in their natural habitat.

A full day of wine tasting, delicious chef-cooked food and amazing scenery. Seriously, what are you waiting for?!

About your guide

Jimmy is a self-confessed former “grumpy chef”, who worked in 5-star restaurants and hotels around the world for many years, while also working part-time as a tour guide. Then a few years ago, while on a camping trip for his 30th birthday, he decided on a career change. He combined his chef and guiding experience to create the ultimate foodie day tour - and he is definitely no longer a grumpy chef!

“Finally I am able to fulfil my passion for cooking and guiding amidst the beautiful Australian countryside”

Jimmy is a Sydney local, growing up in the Blue Mountains and he now lives in the north of Sydney. When not sharing his passion for food, you’ll find him out camping around Australia, enjoying the view with a beer or wine in hand.

This tour was so much fun and Jimmy was great! My husband and I used to work in Napa Valley, so we really wanted to check out wine country. But Jimmy exceeded all of our expectations. I loved starting the day at the Fish Market and picking out the fish for making our own sushi later! Everything we did was such a blast. I'd give this a 10 if I could :)

        Perfect Hunter Valley experience

All in all a perfect day out at Hunter Valley. We visited three wineries, each one very different. The food was excellent and the fact that you also learn how to roll sushi was a plus. Totally recommend it!

        Hunter Valley

A fabulous trip with great wines and exceptional food. Jimmy is knowledgeable about the region and extremely funny when sharing this with you. The food was delicious and matched the wines. As a solo traveller I was delighted at the warmth and hospitality. Wish Id booked the Blue Mountain trip as well but sadly ran out of time. A must for all foodies and wine lovers.

Jimmy will take care of you

This tour was one of the highlights of our 2 weeks in Australia, Jimmy's gourmet spin on wine tasting was really well done and all the food pairings, activities like sushi rolling, and the sightseeing/local trivia, were fun and memorable. The wineries and wines themselves were lovely too, I was pleasantly surprised by the wide array of varietals, I thought we'd be drinking Shiraz all day. Be prepared for a full day driving around, but I highly recommend this tour.

Gourmet getaway tours is a great experience. Highly recommended. The food is great, it is relaxed and the tour guide is very entertaining and polite. Well worth it!
