Enjoy a delicious and fun multicultural dinner banquet and support retraining refugees!
Join a small group of up to 12 locals and travellers and enjoy a tasty two-course banquet at bohemian cafe Parliament on King. You'll sample food from the homelands of asylum seekers and refugees (think Burmese/Rohingya, Iraqi, Iranian, Indian, Nepali, Sri Lankan, Ugandan and more). Parliament on King is run as a social enterprise, so all proceeds will be used to fund refugee and asylum seekers projects and training.
Parliament on King's mission is simple: to make lovely food. But in doing this they address the barriers to economic, social and cultural participation asylum seekers, refugees and recent arrivals to Australia face. As you can imagine, it can be pretty tough arriving here as an outsider, it can be a lonely and difficult thing. They face enormous barriers and Parliament on King's social catering is all about helping them overcome those barriers by providing real work, training and community.
Catch up with old friends, make new ones and enjoy delicious food - what are you waiting for?
I had a wonderful time at this dinner. Vivian, the chef, not only made delicious dishes that catered to both vegan and non-vegan diets, but also walked us through how everything was made and invited us to have a go at cooking too. I hadn't had much in the way of Iraqi food before, so it was great to be able to sample a few dishes in a homey environment. The venue was inviting and comfortable, and it was great to meet so many new, friendly people who were open to sharing their stories and were also keen to learn more about the different experiences and cuisines Sydney and its people have to offer. A must-do for those looking to dive a little deeper into Sydney's cultural scene.
I love the idea of having delicious meal, making new friends and supporting a good cause at the same time! Tried some Burmese food and it was amazing. Hope to be back and sample other cousins too.
So glad you enjoyed the food and the new friends Justyna! Catch you next time. Cheers, Justin
It was great to learn more about Burma and Burmese food in a nice ambiance, great company and overall a very good experience. If you are open to trying new cultural foods and enjoy opening your pallet to new experience then I highly recommend it for locals and tourists!
What a refreshing way to kick off the week! Cool new people and great food I’ve never had before :) Very cosy venue too. I highly recommend for travellers and locals looking to spice up their time in Sydney. Great stuff Justin, you’ll see me at another one of these!
That was a unforgettable experience, especially in a rainy night at Sydney's spring. We tried some different dishes from different refugee' countries, listened to stories, talked with new friends, and spent a lovely night. Highly recommend, and I'm sure that will be a good and kind activity during your Sydney trip.
