This "swag camping" tour by Mulgas Adventures is simply the best way for young and young-at-heart travellers to experience the Red Centre. Starting from either Alice Springs or Ayers Rock Airport, you'll join a crew of up to 23 other travellers on the outback adventure of a lifetime. Over 4 days you'll make new friends as you camp under the stars, enjoy tasty food (not your standard tour food, you'll have kangaroo steaks and camel burgers) and learn about local Aboriginal history and culture.
Highlights of this trip include a guided walk around the base of Uluru, sipping sparkling wine as you watch a spectacular Uluru sunset, visiting "The Garden of Eden" at Kings Canyon and falling asleep in a comfy swag as you watch shooting stars above. Your tour includes 3 hikes, 1 at each of Uluru (base walk), Kata Tjuta (Valley of the Winds) and Kings Canyon (Rim Walk). The 4-day tour also includes a final night at a private bush camp where no other tour operators go. This means you can relax with your fellow travellers and really soak in the outback atmosphere.
Why choose this Uluru tour over others? The difference is your guide. These friendly guys and girls are all experienced Aussies who have been leading tours out here for years. They know so much more than the guides of any other tour company and they love to share their knowledge. Leave not just amazed, but informed.

DAY 1: ALICE SPRINGS TO ULURU
You'll be picked up around at around 6:00 am from your Alice Springs accommodation and begin your outback journey of a lifetime! The next 6 hours are spent driving to Uluru, with breaks along the way. Once at Uluru, you'll visit the Camel Farm where you can have a free camel ride. Other passengers who arrive into Ayers Rock Airport are picked up during this time, then you head to the Cultural Centre for an insight into the flora, fauna and to learn about the local Aboriginal people.
Afterwards, your guide will take you on a short guided interpretive walk at the base of Uluru. You'll then head off to watch the spectacular Uluru sunset while enjoying a glass of sparkling wine with some snacks. Then it’s back to our camp to enjoy a hearty meal and a hot shower and a night under the stars. If you want to see the Field of Lights, a bus will come to collect you after dinner. Please contact us when you book if you would like to do this (additional cost of $43).
DAY 2: KATA TJUTA & KINGS CREEK
You'll wake early and have breakfast, before heading off to watch the sunrise over Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Afterwards, you'll visit Kata Tjuta for a walk through the Valley of the Winds. This walk takes approximately 3 hours and the views from the valley are amazing. After lunch back at the Uluru campsite (perhaps camel burgers), you'll board the bus and travel to Kings Creek Station. This is approximately a 4-hour drive, with stops included and beautiful views of the George Gill Range along the way.
At Kings Creek Station, you'll settle into your new campsite and have a chance to view the sunset again. Tonight you'll enjoy an outback BBQ dinner and laughs around the campfire under the incredible outback sky. Later, get into your swags for another perfect view of the stars.
DAY 3: KINGS CANYON & CURTIN SPRINGS
Another early start today, then after breakfast you'll travel to Kings Canyon and start the spectacular Kings Canyon rim walk. The group will visit both the North and South walls of Kings Canyon, stop for an apple in The Garden of Eden, and visit the Natural Amphitheatre. It’s then back to Kings Creek Station where you have the option of helicopter or quad bike ride (at your expense). You then head off to a private bush camp at Curtin Springs Station where you can take in sunset views of Mt Conner and enjoy your last night under the outback stars.
DAY 4: KINGS CANYON & AYERS ROCK AIRPORT
It’s a relaxed start to the day with a later sleep before you enjoy a tasty breakfast. You will then make one last photo stop before leaving the tour at the airport at around 10:00 am.
Highly recommend this tour. Our guide Danny was a freaking legend that made sure everyone had a awesome time. Super efficient to fly in and out of Ayers Rock so you dont have to spend nights in Alice Springs.
Just finished the 4-day tour and couldnt have asked for a better trip. Jake was the best driver, guide, cook, teacher and resident botanist we could ask for! We were originally going to book a car and do everything ourselves but so glad we chose not to as it meant we didnt need to drive the long distances or spend our budget on petrol. The itinerary was perfect, food great and sleeping under the stars was fantastic making this the best value for money tour. We got quite rained out and couldnt stay at the bush camp but it was incredible to watch the storm coming in from the lookout. I would also definitely recommend opting for the helicopter ride at kings creek station, Tristan was an amazing pilot and the scenery breathtaking! Overall, Mulgas were great! Definitely recommend.
The experience was just amazing!! Lots of sunrises, sunsets, real bush camp experience and sleeping under the stars in swags. Amazing locations for hikes, lookouts and photos. Great food cooked on the fire. (I was worried that they wouldn't have any good vegan food but I was so surprised, so much better than I expected!) Bring a fly net, it's worth it... And bring really warm clothes if camping in May like we did - it got down to 4'C in the night. We saw dingoes, camels, wild horses, galahs and cows! Tour guide Ray was really friendly and knowledgeable :)
I didn't know what to expect before coming to Australia's centre. Friends recommended me Mulgas for booking a tour and I was pleased with how well Jake took care of us. Unfortunately, he couldn't change weather conditions but went out of his way to make the tour as much fun as possible. Sleeping outdoor in swags around a bonfire is an amazing experience I can recommend to everyone. It felt like being on a different planet!
4 days stuck in the desert in the middle of unknown people rather than just with my friends : that was not the most exciting idea for me... I'm so glad my friends convinced me to get into the bus with 17 people. Thanks to our amazing dynamic tour guide : - we were always at the right place at the right time (sunsets, sunrises, hiking before it gets too warm...) - we learned so many little tips, anecdotes, about aborigenal culture, the place, Australian animals, - we felt safe at everytime (day and night) even those who feared sleeping in the middle of Australian deserts The nights under the stars, sleeping in a swag are sooo wonderful The food is more than needed and good That was an awesome time, even for backpackers prefering to be solo it can be cheaper to come and enjoy the tour (perfect to meet people as well) Thanks Ray !
